Roadmap
Status without dates.
Runebender is changing too quickly for a dated release plan on this site. This page separates documented alpha behavior from areas that need more code, design, or public documentation before they should be treated as stable.
| Status | Alpha roadmap lanes |
|---|---|
| Audience | Users, contributors, agents |
| Source | Website docs plus Runebender Xilem README |
| Stability | No dates or release promises |
Documented now
| Build | Source-first Cargo workflow, file picker launch, open a UFO path, verbose logging. |
|---|---|
| Edit | Select, Pen, Hyperbezier Pen, Knife, preview, zoom, transforms, and current shortcut lookup. |
| Trace | Background image import, local img2bez tracing, refit, optional QuiverAI tracing. |
| Formats | UFO orientation, GLIF concepts, hyperbezier identifier, cubic conversion path. |
| Examples | Included UFO sources for first-run testing and hyperbezier inspection. |
Needs verification
These areas should be checked against the current source before they become more detailed public docs.
- Exact selection states, tool modes, and editing edge cases.
- Save behavior, round-tripping expectations, and compatibility with other UFO editors.
- Tracing parameters, image placement details, and backend-specific failure modes.
- Contributor test commands and expected verification workflow.
- Packaging, downloads, releases, and platform support.
Documentation next
| Architecture | Keep Architecture aligned with UI model, font object model, tool state, file IO, tracing, and settings boundaries. |
|---|---|
| Manual | Expand stable editing concepts without locking in unstable UI states. |
| Reference | Keep shortcuts and commands synchronized with the source README and Verification. |
| Examples | Add screenshots or extracted details only when the examples are stable enough to teach from. |
| Launch | Finish public GitHub Pages, DNS, external link, and responsive review. |
Not promised
Until the source project says otherwise, do not present these as available release features.
- Finished binary downloads.
- Stable production file behavior.
- Complete handbook coverage of every interface state.
- Long-term shortcut stability.
- Compatibility guarantees for every downstream UFO editor.
